fingersmiths promo explaining what we do
fingersmiths is a visual physical theatre company.
All our plays are performed in British Sign Language (BSL) and spoken or written English and performed by Deaf and hearing actors.
We tour our productions nationally so keep an eye on this site to see if we are coming near you!
We are Jeni Draper – Artistic Director and Isobel Hawson – Producer
Has worked nationally and internationally as a performer over many years. She is a regular theatre interpreter and has been involved in many shows where she has been integrated in to the performance rather than standing on a corner in a special light. Now she is directing, Jeni has the best of both worlds combining all her experience with interpreting and acting in creating shows for fingersmiths that are accessible to all. She also likes a good glass of wine and lying on a sandy sunny beach, although not at the same time necessarily.
Isobel is a theatre producer and Director – On Tour Ltd, a national and international arts consultancy.
She works with a range of companies providing mentoring support and advising on their creative, infrastructural, touring and partnership developments.
She has spent many years working nationally and internationally in producing theatres and young people’s theatre touring companies, producing and touring work.
As Senior Theatre Officer Theatre, Arts Council England she led on the strategic and policy development of cultural diversity and theatre developing a range of programmes including the Black Regional Initiative in Theatre; Eclipse Theatre and associated training programmes; Sustained Theatre and also led on children and young people’s theatre and an innovative national programme developing young people’s participatory theatre.
Bold choices in creating a unique theatre form, connecting with our audiences through our multi-layered approach to language and physical expression.
